Fragments of Hong Kong

For over ten years, Hong Kong has been the one destination at the top of my travel list. I had been fascinated with the city ever since discovering the films of Wong Kar-Wai (especially his masterpiece, Chungking Express). After having admired the city from afar for that long of a time, the anticipation reached a fever pitch when I was fortunate enough to be able to plan my first trip there.

My time in Hong Kong lasted over the first weekend of November, 2024. While I already knew that it was not going to be nearly enough time to take in the city, and that this was not going to be my last time in Hong Kong, I had to make the most of this chance. So, I went out and took photos throughout the weekend, concentrating mostly in the Wan Chai and Mong Kok neighborhoods.

Of course, one weekend is way too short a time to take in the essence of a city — especially a place like Hong Kong. I was definitely in the city the whole time, spending all the daytime hours walking around and photographing. However, it was impossible to get a sense of the place as a whole. I rather felt like I was only seeing fragments here and there. So, I’ve titled my collection of photos over that weekend Fragments of Hong Kong.
